getting to know our new classroom

We loved seeing our new classroom full of students today! We've been getting it ready for a month now, but it wasn't until today when it was buzzing with play that it felt like a real classroom.

It is a pretty wonderful situation we find ourselves in, teaching in a classroom with three teachers! However, we realize that you and your student might be having a hard time trying to distinguish between three new faces at once. After the students left Meet Your Teacher this morning, we decided that our first blog post of the year should be a "cheat sheet" for you. We want you to get to know us and to feel comfortable leaving your children in our care. We promise to take great care of them!

First is Leslie Hedenberg. (Triangle Room students call us Miss Leslie, Miss Andrea, and Miss Diann.)

My days center around my love of children, from my own four kids (Gracie- ninth grade, Luke- seventh grade, Drew- third grade, and Kate- first grade),  to teaching at Webster Hills, to being a volunteer with the youth at my church. When I am not at preschool, I can usually be found in one of four places- working on projects for my home decor business, walking my two Westie dogs, cheering my kids on at one of their activities, or working on my hundred-year-old house with my husband Ben. I love hiking, photography, and travel of any and all kinds. The people who know me well know that I make a dozen to-do lists a day, can't ever turn down chips and salsa, and drink entirely too much coffee.

This is my tenth year of teaching.... with a break in the middle to be at home with my children when they were young. Before arriving at Webster Hills, I taught third and fourth grade in the Ritenour District and was a reading teacher in the Clayton School District. I couldn't be happier to be part of the staff at Webster Hills!

Next up is Andrea Felgenhauer.

My passion for working with preschoolers dates back to my pre-teens, working as a popular sitter in our neighborhood. While I shared my love for baking and crafting with them, their carefree, creative attitudes reminded me to lighten up and not take life so seriously. I love preschoolers. They're funny, honest, and uninhibited. In college I struggled between choosing a career in art versus child development. Kids won (don't they always!). I hold Bachelor of Science degrees in child development and psychology and have worked in a variety of settings- most recently as a co-teacher with Leslie in the Triangle Room last year. While I don't have an art degree, I still love to create.... whether it's writing, drawing or making something out of cardboard for our students to enjoy in dramatic play.

And last but certainly not least is Diann Loida.

I am so excited to be starting my first year at Webster Hills! I have taught first, second, and third graders and have been a Parent Educator with the Parents as Teachers program. My husband Tom and I have a sixteen year old daughter and a fourteen year old son as well as multiple pet children!
