animals

Last week we studied animals in the Triangle Room- a perfect theme for the MANY animal lovers we have in the class! On Tuesday, we focused mostly on animal feet. Students learned that animals have many differently shaped and sized feet. We measured animal footprints with unifex cubes and them compared the lengths to our own feet. We created a graph with our results.

On Wednesday, students enjoyed learning about animal noses, ears, and mouths. We learned why some animals have the body parts they do. The children especially enjoyed a "Who Does This Nose Belong To?" game I created with photocopies of animal noses. After circle, students were able to create an animal from their imagination. I loved some of the descriptions they used for their animals- "My animal lives in a cave and eats noodles." "My animal lives in the water and eats broccoli." We also spent time talking about different types of animal homes. During free choice time, students could create a home for animals out of blocks. I also brought in a large cardboard box and many stuffed bears. Some of the students really enjoyed going into the bear den. One student chose to spend the entire free choice session in the den!

Thursday was focused on giving thanks. We read many books about looking for things to be thankful for. Students were able to share with the class some of their own ideas. During journaling, students were able to create cards for loved ones thanking them for something. The free choice art activity at the end of the day was a tissue paper mosaic heart to give to someone the child is thankful for.

Some of the students spotted a rabbit outside of the window while playing in Hudspeth.

More students wanted to join in the fun of watching the rabbit.....

so exciting!

Tasting lemon juice in science class to learn about our five senses. James was not a fan.

Hazel did not love the lemon juice either.

Camille thought the lemon juice was really sour too!

I brought in Marble Works from home and the students LOVED them.
