Fire Safety Week

The visit by the Webster Groves Fire Dept. started our school week! We learned about the firefighters' protective clothing, their tools, and the equipment on the firetruck.

Throughout the week we:
 * read many fireman books
 * did fireman fingerplays and action songs
 * did marble painting with fire colors
 * made 5 Firefighters fingerplay handprints
 * cut and sorted pictures of Hot and Not Hot items
 * played in the sensory table with strips of yellow, red, and orange paper, practicing cutting the paper and finding hidden firetrucks
 * read STOP, DROP, and ROLL book and practiced how to stop, drop, and roll
 * practiced counting and matching numbers 1-3
Thursday morning we went in small groups on a "Fire Safety Scavenger Hunt" , looking throughout the building for fire alarms,
extinguishers, EXIT signs, and more!  The children were so engaged and observant!

The children enjoyed sweet, cherry smelling (Kool-aid) playdough
Preparing a hand for the firefighter 5 finger handprints
Learning to roll a die and count the numbers and circle the correct one on their sheet.

The students certainly enjoyed cutting the paper strips and discovering firetrucks hidden in the sensory table.
