mud & worms & clouds & rainbows

It was a great week in the Triangle Room! We enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful weather. We also had fun learning about more spring themes- robins, clouds, rainbows, and worms.

Books read together this week:

  • Mud!
  • A Mud Pie for Mother
  • Mrs. Wishy Washy
  • Rainbows
  • Worm Weather
  • Clouds
  • Little Cloud
  • The Rainy Day
  • A Nest Full of Eggs

Favorite activities this week:
  • After learning about the three types of clouds, students created clouds with a mixture of shaving cream and white paint. We compared our clouds in style to the illustrations done by Eric Carle in the book Little Cloud.
  • After reading Worm Weather, students painted "mud" (brown paint and oatmeal) thickly on to a piece of paper and added worms (rubber bands).
  • Students had the chance to play with water in the sensory table. They especially enjoyed pouring the water through colanders and from pitcher to pitcher.
  • We observed and held worms.
  • We created nests for robins after reading A Nest Full of Eggs. We used a variety of materials just as a robin would when building her nest.
  • After learning that rain occurs when a could is full of water, we enjoyed squeezing the water out of cotton ball clouds with tongs. (Great for strengthening our fine motor skills and lots of fun too!
  • We had a shared writing chart of our observations about worms.
  • We continued to enjoy a market in our dramatic play area.
  • We learned all about airplanes in science class.

  • We charted together words that start with W and practiced making the letter W in the air.
  • Students created rainbow mini books.
  • We all enjoyed a puddle flannel board rhyme that helped us to practice counting backwards.
  • We stamped our names with ink and alphabet stamps.
